Curious, shy little guys, the Axu are an amphibious humanoid race with distinct axolotl-like features. Their origins remain unclear as to whether they evolved from axolotl, were somehow transformed, or came into being in some other way. What is known about them is that they are generally friendly, inquisitive, and loyal, making them great party members on a quest. Their inquisitive nature makes them natural scholars, with many often taking up the arcane arts in one fashion or another. Their bodies are slightly more fragile than most humanoids, but they have the impressive ability to regenerate lost limbs.

Solitary Hunters

Axu and are solitary creatures, preferring to live alone rather than in large groups. They are not territorial and can coexist peacefully with other Axu, but value their own personal space and time away from groups and people. Despite their solitary nature, once they befriend someone, they tend to form deep and meaningful connections and alliances, making them fiercely loyal to their chosen companions or groups.

Amphibious Living

Capable of living in both water and on land, Axu prefer to hybridise their home and living spaces wherever they can. This often results in their dwellings being lightly flooded to about knee height, with a mix of aquatic and land-based areas. If an Axu decides to live in a more traditional humanoid home, they will often bring an inflatable pool or two to set up in their bedroom/living space.

Axu tend to have a preference towards names with a soft and melodic tone that is pleasing to hear and brings joy to others. This often results in names that other species perceive as cute or non-threatening.
Male Names: Snuggles, Bumble, Pudding, Cuddle, Wiggles, Giggles, Sprout, Bubbly, Nibbles.
Female Names: Daisy, Bubbles, Cupcake, Pebbles, Sparkle, Twinkle, Pippin, Noodle.

Axu reaches maturity at a relatively young age of 15 and can live anywhere between 45 and 75 years.

Axu are typically around 4 and 5 feet tall on average, but most tend to slouch, lowering their posture. Your size is Medium.

Your base walking speed is 30 feet, and your base swim speed is 40ft.

Natural Regeneration
Once per long rest, if an attack would reduce you to below 0 hit points, regain 1d4 hit points. You can also regrow any severed limbs or heal scars, given enough time. You have a advantage on saving throws against diseases and resistance to poison damage.

Amphibious Nature
You can breathe both air and water and have a base swim speed of 40ft. You also have an advantage on checks and saving throws related to water-based environments.

Axolotl Heritage
You gain proficiency in the following skills: Nature, Medicine, and Stealth.

You can speak, read, and write Common and one language of your choice.
