Shrubberi (D&D 5e)

Shrubberi

The Shrubberi are plant-based humanoids imbued with a magical life force. They were created a wizard a few millennia ago as an experiment; however, they quickly grew out of control and eventually were allowed to settle in peace. They vary in shape and size and come in a variety of plant types and appearances. However, their general appearance is that of a green-hued humanoid body, with a plant-like growth stemming from the neck where a head should be. They have no eyes or mouths and communicate telepathically with those around them, using their leaves to sense changes in light around them.

The Right of Ascension
Every Shrubberi at the age of maturity must leave home and find a place to lay down roots. They will search far and wide, planting themselves possibly dozens of times in places until they feel they have found the right spot. This spot may change over time as the needs and desires of the Shrubberi change with age. It might be a few houses away from where they used to live, to the top of the heist mountain. Some Shrubberi stay put in their new homes, while others continue to adventure, coming back only to rest and grow between missions.

The Mother Shrubber
Shrubberi reproduce asexually by infusing a regular plant seedling with part of their magical lifeforce, resulting in a unique Shrubberi based on the type of seeds from which the plant came. Multiple Shrubberi can imbue the seeds, but only one is necessary to create a new Shrubberi. The original Shrubberi, also known as the 'Mother Shrubber,' is the progenitor from which all Shrubberi can trace their heritage. Little is known about the magic used to create the Shrubberi; however, some believe that if the Mother Shrubber were to ever die, the entire species could perish with her, while others believe that a new Mother Shrubber would rise to take her place.

Shrubberi Names
Shrubberi typically name themselves after the plant they stem from; however, some have been known to take on more humanoid-like names and titles. They often opt to name themselves after qualities or aspects they admire or like, such as ‘Rain’, ‘Sunshine’, or ‘Bee’.

Shrubberi are non-binary by nature but often adopt pronouns and prefixes to ease into humanoid society.
